Through a practical, structured approach, learners explore the foundations of STEM education, lesson planning strategies, assessment methods, and inclusive practices. The course emphasizes real‑world relevance, interdisciplinary learning, and strategies to engage diverse learners while aligning STEM instruction with career and technical education (CTE) and after‑school programming.
Module 1: STEM Education and Variations
Foundations of STEM education, instructional shifts, economic relevance, student impact, and STEM models/variations.
Module 2: Lesson Planning with STEM
Components of effective STEM teaching, selecting and analyzing lessons for STEM alignment, adapting lessons, and applying criteria and constraints.
Module 3: Lesson Design and Assessment
STEM lesson design principles, creating lesson outlines, assessing impact, and using assessment to inform improvement.
Module 4: Incorporating STEM Across Settings
Integrating STEM with CTE, after‑school programming, inclusive curriculum design, engaging girls in STEM, and strategies to reduce access barriers.
