Delivered through an accredited institution, this course provides learners with a comprehensive foundation in interior decorating and design. Learners explore the historical and theoretical bases of design, space planning, materials and systems, furnishings, and professional practice, building the knowledge and practical insight needed to design functional, aesthetic, and responsible interior environments.
Module 1: Foundations of Interior Decorating and Design
Explores the historical, theoretical, and compositional foundations of design, including principles of design, color, light, and the impact of technology on modern interiors.
Module 2: Planning Residential and Commercial Spaces
Focuses on design as a systematic process, space programming, and planning strategies for residential, commercial, hospitality, and healthcare environments.
Module 3: Exterior and Interior Environmental Systems
Examines environmental influences, codes, building systems, lighting, energy conservation, and human comfort considerations within interior environments.
Module 4: Interior Materials, Systems, and Finishes
Covers material characteristics, sustainability, architectural systems, interior finishes, structural components, and cost and aesthetic considerations.
Module 5: Furniture, Furnishings, and Equipment
Addresses furniture planning, selection, materials, life-cycle costs, furnishings, accessories, and specialized equipment for healthcare, hospitality, retail, and institutional spaces.
Module 6: Professional Practice and Design Communication
Explores professional practice fundamentals, design communication methods, presentation techniques, business operations, and service models in interior design and decorating.
After completing this course, the learner will be able to:
